5-minute Coronavirus tests are on the way. These tests could come to the hospital ERs as soon as next week. This magic test is made by Abbott Labs.
The name of the 5-minute Coronavirus test is ID NOW.
“We’re taking rapid, portable COVID-19 molecular testing to the frontlines with positive results in as little as 5 minutes and negative results in 13 minutes.” – says Abbott on Twitter.
According to the Abbott Labs official statement, they will be making ID NOW COVID-19 tests available next week to the healthcare providers in urgent care settings in the US. The company is working with the Administration to deploy tests to the areas where they can have the greatest impact.
The ID NOW platform is small, lightweight (6.6 pounds) and portable (the size of a small toaster). It uses molecular technology, which means a high degree of accuracy. ID NOW is already the most widely available molecular point-of-care testing platform in the US today.
Although it’s not a cure, this 5-minute Coronavirus test will definitely be a major gamechanger. This will significantly improve the outcome of the Covid-19 pandemic. In other words, the fast diagnosis means doctors will be able to identify and start treating severe coronavirus patients almost immediately, as opposed to sending them home and having them wait several days, which will decrease a chance of farther spreading the virus.
